M.D.:Veronika, hello. Let’s begin our interview. You are a singer, actress, model ... And who are you more? or you haven’t decided yet?
V.V.: Hello, I’m very artsy person, I’ve been singing since I was little, I got into acting not a while ago and modeling is just exciting experience for me. I don’t see myself as a supermodel, although I do like photoshoots but definitely wouldn’t be able to work as a model full time, mainly because there is no creative output in it for me. On the other side, I can spend hours on the studios recording or nights at the rehearsals.
M.D.: Where are you from? Tell us briefly about your childhood and family. It would be interesting to know how such an extraordinary person was grown?
V.V.:I was born and raised in Kaliningard, Russia, small beautiful city by the Baltic Sea. I grew up without my father but my mom was an amazing mother a child only could ask for. She helped me overcome aftermath of the car accident I’ve gotten into when I was 5 years old, as doctors promised it will forever affect my nervous system, she decided that immersing me into the arts might help with my Injury. A year later I had my first stage performance.
M.D.: You moved to New York. Why America, why this city? Tell us about your great love for megacities?
V.V.: Yes, it will be 5 years in October since I moved here. To be honest I never thought I will end up living in United States. I always wanted to move to a bigger city like Moscow just so I can get more career opportunities and more freedom but at that point of my life I’ve got into serious relationship and it was very hard to keep them in long distance so I made a decision to move there. From the first sight new york’s craziness scared me, I lived far enough but would visit it once in a while. Eventually I haven’t even noticed how I completely fell in love with the city, to the point I decided to move as much closer as I could.
M.D.: As I understand at the moment you combine studying and work. Where does such a fragile girl find so much energy and excitement, so much love, and the will for life?
V.V.: As soon as I reach the new top I start looking for the new goal right away. I am never satisfy with what I have, I always believe that I can do more and better. For that a lot of people trying to slow me down and suggesting I should take a break, but I’m never tired, I believe that this world has so much to show to us that every single day is a new story and I want to find out as much as possible about all this gifts life is holding for us.
M.D.: How and when do you find time to relax and recharge with such a tough schedule?V.V.: It is very crucial for me to restore my strength and energy balance. Whenever I have some free time I always try to spend time with the nature. I love to go out of town and spend time hiking or by the ocean, I usually combine it with running and meditation, this helps to clear out my mind and body. Self-care is important for me as well as it helps me to restore my feminine energy.
M.D.: At this moment you are at your last year at NJCU (New Jersey city university) of Musical Theatre Program. What will change once you get your degree in this specialty and what do you expect after graduation?
V.V.: Honestly, nothing will dramatically change for me. I just will have more free time to go to auditions but as I am a big believer that we should be learning throughout all our life, I still will be taking some type of classes to improve my art, I still will be seeking for opportunities to get better at what I do. At the moment I also became very interested in health and nutrition study and even decided to get certification as a holistic nutritionist.
M.D.: In addition to studying, you develop a successful career as a model, working under contract with one of the leading modeling agencies of America, msa models. Are you satisfied with the working conditions in your agency?
V.V.: I didn’t start as a model with Msa, my story is quite exceptional. I always was curious how it is on the other side of the modeling business so I got hired as intern for the office in Manhattan, months later some clients sent in some samples and we had no models at the office at that moment to try them on so I end up trying them on, next day I sign up my contract with the agency and dropped the intern position.
M.D.: Besides working and studying, you find time for you big passion - singing, we know that you are working on your first album now. How will you call it? What style are you working on and who helps you with the singles recording?
V.V.: I didn’t decide on the name of the album yet. Album is coming together with the help of my friend and great singer/songwriter Erick Right. The style is various since it’s the first album so there are lot of experiments with the rhythms and sounds, but definitely you will be able to hear some pop sounds in it.
M.D.: Moving to the new city, you for sure have brought the most necessary things with you. Is there something that you have that reminds you of your home and family?
V.V.: Living in the time of the most innovative technologies I didn’t even have to bring anything with me to remind me of home, Im constantly talking and texting with my parents on the phone, even do video chats with them sometimes. The only thing I miss sometimes is Russian food. When I feel nostalgic about it, I just visit my favorite Russian spots in Manhattan, which always have the great vibe.
M.D.: And what are the principles and rules of your life that you will never change even when changing the location and living conditions?
V.V.: The most important rule in my life that I follow is never expect anything from anyone, always rely on yourself. This, so far, helped me to adapt to any situation or circumstance in my life. It helps not to raise your hopes and expectations and don’t feel upset when they are not met. Besides, we can’t know for sure what’s going on in other people’s lives and why they act the way they do.
M.D.: There is a statement that every person on earth has their own destiny. Do you believe in it? If so - what is the mission in your life?
V.V.: I absolutely do, I believe the one who found it and follows it - is the happiest one. Mine is through my music and my art change people’s lives, affect their emotions and feelings. Being on stage for me it’s a great responsibility, I want for that short period of time while people watching me, make them happier, make them forget any problems or sadness they are dealing with. Their applause and gratitude after the show are the greatest reward for me, it makes me realize that I’ve done something to make this world a little bit better.
M.D.: What, in addition to good physical shape, do the exercises give you?
V.V.: I do, sport is a huge part of my life. I do up to 4 trainings per week and adding cardio exercises to it regularly, but I rather do running outdoors, especially love to run along the ocean boardwalk. Work out for me is not only training your body, it’s disciplining your eating habits, organizing your mind and spirit. It makes me feels good about myself, my health and my life style in general.
M.D.: What can you advise young women who are planning to move abroad?
V.V.: Moving abroad is a very tough step since it’s changing all your perspective on your life, home country and people around you. You have to take a responsible decision that it’s exactly what you want because there are gonna be a lot of difficulties along way. First, you’ll start thinking that you made a mistake, every single thing will be compared by you with the way it is back home, your consciousness will be fighting every moment with «wrongness» of the new culture, language, traditions. But trust me, once you start accepting yourself as a part of this new world, you’ll realize that is not wrong, it’s just «different». So my advice - keep patience and stay positive about changes in your life.
